Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon
Knaresborough is 3 miles east of Harrogate and Ripon about 10 miles north of it. Both are on our list, and Ripon, at about 20 miles from Yeadon, is near the top of our 25-mile patch. York is the other North Yorkshire town we cover.
Conservation areas and Article 4 in Harrogate
North Yorkshire Council lists 53 conservation areas in the Harrogate district. The largest is the Harrogate conservation area, which covers the Victorian centre of the town, and Knaresborough has one too.
The council says roof extensions, including dormer windows and raising the ridge of the roof, need planning permission inside a conservation area. So does cladding part of a house, and certain flues and solar panels that can be seen from a road. Parts of Harrogate also have Article 4 directions, which take away some permitted development rights altogether.
